On a rainy Monday morning October 4th in the Fashion Theater at the California Market Theater, leading fashion merchandising and trend forecasting consulting firm Directives West presented their spring 2011 fashion contemporary junior and girls trends show. Directives West identified the following four trends: Pure Delight, Coastal Cool, Global Patrol, and Precious Armour. Over one hundred and seventy looks were presented.
"Directives West is the West Coast merchandising consulting division of The Doneger Group. Directives West provides clients with comprehensive market analysis in all categories of business, including women's contemporary, better, junior, moderate, accessories, young men's and children's, with the unique perspective and indisputable influence of West Coast fashion and lifestyle." With lots of nostalgic floral patterns, pastels colors, and some lace for loose fitting blouses, jackets, short dresses, skirts, and shorts and pants, the first trend Pure Delight presents "A fantastic dreamscape of softly veiled shades, fluid folds and dense ruffles, mixed with heirloom details that bring romanticism to the season." With lots of stripes, a few graphics, some denim plus bold colors for tee's dresses, skirts, blouses, shorts, and vests "Coastal Cool" is where "leisure time becomes the ultimate luxury and classic Americana style meets the west coast with a touch of simple whimsy and repose..." Here immediately below are a few examples.

With plenty of patterns, prints and saturated bright colors borrowed especially from Central and South America, "Global Patrol" was especially eclectic and wonderful with its dresses, skirts, occasional layers and woven fabrics. The combinations of cultures as displayed on the wide array of models of different ethnicities was the highlight of the show and really represented the beautiful diversity of Los Angeles. As noted in the brochure: "Gear up for this expedition with international tribes and old world elements blending for a wild new utilitarian adventure."Here immediately below are a few examples.

With the fewest number of looks and some technical problems (the lights went out), the last of the four trends presented, "Precious Armour" was more forward looking than the trends that preceded it. Again as noted in the brochure: "Modern protective interpretations reveal a true beauty through textural manipulation and fluid neutrality creating new industrial refinement."
