SETORII POND - LOS ANGELES COUTURE WITH JEFF LINETT [#3]
- Where are you from?
I was born in Florida. I have lived in Minnesota, London, Switzerland & California.
- What inspired you to be a designer?
I love what clothing can do for a person. It can completely reinvent oneself, transform them and/or compliment their uniqueness by expressing their own sense of individuality. I wanted to inspire people with my vision and have adored fashion since I could barely walk so it was a brewing fashion evolution.
- Who is your favorite designer?
I cannot limit myself to just one designer because each one appeals to different creative sides of myself but to name a few: Valentino, Cavalli, Dior, Lagerfeld to name just a few.
- Did you study fashion design?
After returning from school in Switzerland named Le Rosey, I acquired two degrees: one from Pepperdine & another from F.I.D.M.
- What was your inspiration for your current designs / line?
I also have developed a love for automobiles through my younger years. It was something I did with my Grandfather, Robert Pond. He loved aviation and cars and together with my Grandparents we created so many wonderful memories together collecting cars. My current fashion collection was inspired by the car collection. I have always been drawn to the lines, elegance and style the cars exude and I wanted to create beautiful pieces which have a simple and natural allure.
- So how are things going? What is next?
Things have been quite challenging thus far but it is the grit which has kept me not wanting to stray far from my vision. One of the projects I am currently in the process of making is a coffee table book crossing both the cars from the collection of cars and my fashion designs which were inspired by the cars. It will be called, " The Art of Setorii " and will be available in 2012. I wanted to harness some of the appeal of what cars naturally posses and encompass the beauty of women in one book. All by capturing the allure of a Perelli style shoot mixed with a fashion perspective and a beautiful car collection which is near and dear to me. I have an amazing team part of this project who have been helping me bring my vision to life. There are about 100 cars in The Pond Collection and by complimenting each car with a beautiful high fashion model adorning the car, it will surely add a little more automotive appeal or fashion intrigue to anyone's coffee table.
I have a lot of great ideas to tie both cars and fashion together and without giving things away too soon, I am in the process of developing some of them so stay tuned. :)
- Any advice for young designers?
My advice to young designers is to always follow your passion. You must inspire yourself before you inspire others. Do not be afraid to break the mold or pave a new direction. You have to take risks to stand out in our industry and taking risks is what can inspire others. My final piece of advice: Always be true to yourself, embrace who you are and what makes you/your vision unique and by all means.. never give up.
